World Down Syndrome Day with The Waterloo Regional Down Syndrome Society
The Waterloo Regional Down Syndrome Society will hold its annual World Down Syndrome Day celebration on Saturday March 21st at Maxwell’s Concert and Events in Waterloo.
World Down Syndrome Day takes place on the third month, 21st day each year to represent the three copies of the 21st chromosome, which defines Down Syndrome. It is celebrated around the world to honour and raise awareness about the unique individuals who have this most common chromosomal disorder.
The celebration takes place at Maxwell’s from 11am -2pm and includes lunch and some fun activities for people of all ages. For those wishing to attend, tickets are available here.
Members in the community who wish to support individuals with Ds but cannot attend are encouraged to wear mismatched socks on that day. Under a microscope, chromosomes look like little socks, so mismatched socks have become a worldwide symbol of Ds.
